Ramazanov Foundation Science Award Given to Jade Beutler, New Board Members Announced  

 

 

West Palm Beach, FL, (October 14, 2008) -- The tragic death of prominent industry scientist Dr. Zakir Ramazanov became the catalyst for raising the bar on integrity within the dietary supplement industry.

 

2008-11-04. The Ramazanov Award Foundation bestowed its first award on Jade D. Beutler during Supply Side International Trade Show & Conference in Las Vegas, NV, on October 24th. The Foundation also announced the addition of three noted industry veterans to its board of directors.

 

The purpose of the Foundation, named for the late industry scientist Dr. Zakir Ramazanov, is to recognize scientists and professionals working in the area of nutrition whose dedication has contributed to significant evidence-based improvement in people’s health and wellbeing.

 

“The board of directors took the choice of the first award recipient very seriously because it sets the tone and the direction of the foundation,” Foundation President Leonid Ber, M.D. said during the award ceremony. “It is symbolic that we are presenting the first Ramazanov Award during Supply Side. While there is plenty of good quality science being presented and developed on the Supply Side of the industry, not always does it gets translated into quality consumer products. Jade Beutler deserves to be the first Ramazanov Award recipient because he is an example of how such “translation” can be done in an ethical way without sacrificing integrity and bending science for the sake of profit.”

 

Jade Beutler is the CEO of Lignan Research L.L.C., a company specializing in research, development, and manufacture of novel, lignan based phytochemicals, Jade also serves as CEO of Barleans Oils. He is a licensed health care practitioner by trade and has applied his scientific background and discipline in the conception, research and development of scientifically validated nutritional supplements. Many of these products are best sellers in their respective categories, proving that nutritional products steeped in science can be a recipe for success. Jade is also an author and authority in the area of essential fatty acids with the outcome of educating consumers to the benefits of nutrition in an easy to understand and entertaining way.

 

The First Ramazanov Foundation Award recipient joins the board, which currently includes Leonid Ber MD, Larry Switzer, Steve Sikorski PhD, Richard Brown MD and Miguel Jimenez PhD.

 

Other new additions to the board announced at the awards ceremony include:

 

Mark Blumenthal: Mark is the founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC), the editor/publisher of HerbalGram, and the senior editor of three of ABC’s books. He represents ABC in the media, to stakeholders, and at conventions, conferences, and other appearances. He has guided ABC strategically since its founding, and is widely viewed as one of the most effective botanical advocates and educators for several decades.

 

Anthony L. Almada, MSc: Anthony’s industry experience is notable, from working in natural products retail stores in the late 70s-early 80’s, to his stint creating products for Metagenics in the 1980’s, to creating the first “thermogenic” product in 1993 for KAL, to his co-founding EAS in 1993. Other experience includes founder, President and Chief Science Officer of IMAGINutrition and MetaResponse Sciences; Co-founder, president and CEO of GENr8. His reputation for holding industry to high scientific standards is legendary.

 

Wendy Wang PhD: Wendy, president of Advanced Botanical Consulting & Testing, has been involved in nutritional supplements testing since 1994. Previous positions include Lab Tech director at Frontier Natural Products Co-Op and Botanical Technical Support Director for Leiner. She is much published, including as a contributing author to several American Herbal Pharmacopoeia monographs, a chapter on botanical method development and validation published by the American Chemical Society, and is a Journal Advisory Board member of the peer reviewed journal Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research.

 

The Foundation, currently sponsored by P.L. Thomas & Co, and Polifenoles Naturales, S.L. , is also accepting tax deductible donations from companies wishing to support science excellence.
